SUBANG JAYA: Those intending to pursue a British degree in nursing locally will soon have the opportunity to do so, thanks to a collaborative partnership between Sime Darby Nursing & Health Sciences College and University of Hertfordshire, United Kingdom (UK).

IT IS DONE: Representatives from Sime Darby Nursing & Health Sciences College and University of Hertfordshire exchange the MoU documents.

The full-time Bachelor of Science (Hons) degree in Contemporary Nursing is scheduled to commence in January next year.

“We are proud to be working with a distinguished academic institution like the University of Hertfordshire to facilitate student progression to the university’s contemporary nursing degree programme after completion of requisite qualifications,” said Sime Darby Healthcare Division managing director Raja Azlan Raja Azwa.

He said this at the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the University of Hertfordshire at the Sime Darby Medical Centre in Subang Jaya yesterday.

The College is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Sime Darby Healthcare which also owns three medical centres, namely Sime Darby Medical Centre Subang Jaya, Sime Darby Specialist Medical Centre Megah and Sime Darby Medical Centre Ara Damansara.

The Faculty of Health and Human Sciences deputy dean Dr Lyn Karstadt, signed the MOU on behalf of the University’s School of Nursing, Midwifery and Social Work.

The Sime Darby Nursing & Health Sciences College chief executive Shanaz Mawji said the signing marked one of the many initiatives by the College in developing new opportunities for undergraduates.

The programme is designed to support care improvement and continuing professional development for nurses working in a variety of settings.

The two-year study programme will enable students to save more than 50 per cent in course and tuition fees as well as in accommodation and living costs.

The degree programme is intended for those who have obtained the Diploma in Nursing and wish to further their studies in this field, relevant to experienced nurses who wish to enhance skills and knowledge in their specific areas of practice.

Those who successfully pursued the degree programme will be awarded with a University of Hertfordshire degree.

The BSc (Hons) Contemporary Nursing programme aims to produce graduates who are well-versed and knowledgeable in the industry, display excellent analytical skills and improve the effectiveness of care given to patients and their families.

The programme provides two uniquely incorporated niche modules which will be an added advantage to students in their work career.

“By linking theory with professional practice, we make sure that the new generation of nurses leaves our college armed with the cutting-edge knowledge in their discipline,” Shanaz added. The degree course is delivered and assessed by way of assignments by University of Hertfordshire faculty staff.

Students will have access to online tutorial support, extensive online collections of information resources, as well as digital and print collections in the College.
