Unimas holds CNY Fest



KOTA SAMARAHAN: Universiti Ma­lay­sia Sarawak (Unimas) held its Chinese New Year 2010 Festival at Dewan Unimas, Kampus Timur on Saturday night.

The festival which was officiated by Unimas vice-chancellor Professor Dr Khairuddin Ab Hamid, was organised by ‘Majlis Perwakilan Pelajar Unimas’ (Unimas Student Representatives Council) and the Chinese New Year 2010 Festival committee.

“This festival is held to encourage understanding amongst the various races in Unimas and also to train students in organising and managing events,” said Khairuddin during his speech at the opening ceremony.

Aimed at celebrating the coming Chinese New Year , the event was also promote traditional Chinese culture to the Unimas community.

A total of 650 Unimas students and lecturers joined in the event to usher into the year of the Tiger.

The crowd was entertained by enthralling performances such as Chinese cultural dances, theatre, musical, Chinese yoyo and 24 drum orchestra.
