Woman from China loses cash and valuables in hotel robbery

KUCHING: A woman from China lost cash and valuables when two men allegedly entered her hotel room and bound and gagged her early Friday morning.
The incident happened around 3am when the 30-something foreigner was suddenly awakened by someone knocking on the door of her room at a hotel in the Padungan area where she was staying.
She claimed that two unknown men suddenly barged into the room as soon as she opened the door, and that she ended up being bound hand and foot as well as gagged by the duo.
The men proceeded to rummage through her belongings and escaped with about RM4,000 in both local and foreign currency, along with her mobile phone and passport.
Later the same day, she said she received a phone call purportedly from one of the men who robbed her, demanding for more money for the return of her passport.
Accompanied by an acquaintance, the woman lodged a police report of the incident at the Central Police Station.
In an unrelated incident, an Indonesian woman working as a singer in the city was fortunate not to be injured after falling victim to two snatch thieves early yesterday.
The 25-year-old had just left her workplace at Chan Chin An Road around 2.30am when two men on a motorcycle sped past her and grabbed her handbag.
The bag contained approximately RM100 in cash, two handphones and the victim’s passport.
She lodged a police report immediately following the incident.
In a similar incident yesterday, a local woman lost cash and a handphone after a lone snatch thief grabbed her handbag while she was waiting to cross a road.
The 30-year-old woman, a clerk, was waiting to cross the road at Mile 4 1/2 around 8am when an unknown man snatched her handbag as he rode past her.
No injuries were reported and the victim promptly headed to the Sungai Maong police station to lodge a report.
