Wonderkid Han Ting swims to six records



SIBU: Kee Han Ting splashed to six new records from a total haul of nine gold and two silver medals in the Sibu Age Group Swimming Championship 2010 on Sunday.

Swimming in girls A category, she broke the 200m individual medley record by clocking 2:52.6 and then went on to set new times in the 100m butterfly (1:16.78), 200m backstroke (2:59.26), 100m backstroke (1:20.80), 50m butterfly (34.24) and 50m backstroke (37.09).

She was declared the best performer in her category.

In the boys competition, Ling Ee Yeh, swimming in A category, also set six new records — 100m freestyle (57.99), 100m butterfly (1:04.71), 400m individual medley (5:10.26), 50m butterfly (28.77), 200m freestyle (2:10.04) and 50m backstroke (30.46).

In all 22 new records were created.

Liliana Ting set two records in girls A — 100m freestyle (1:07.54) and 50m breaststroke (40.7).

In girls B, Nita Wong also rewrote two new records — 200m backstroke (2:35.69) and 100m backstroke (1:13.44).

She was the best swimmer in her category.

Cindy Sui was the best performer in girls C  while Wui Ling Tiong in girls D.

Tai Hong Lau set new records in boys A 400m freestyle with a time of 4:35.7 and 400m individual medley (5.6.93) while Alex Tiong’s record-breaking swims came in 200m backstroke (2:23.48) and 100, backstroke (1:6.19).

The other records were created by Steven Tang in boys A 100m butterfly (1:04.33) and Kevin Law in boys D 50m butterfly (30.68).

The two-day competition was organised by Sibu Amateur Swimming Association with 152 swimmers from 22 secondary and primary schools taking part.

Sibu Municipal Council deputy chairman Daniel Ngieng gave way the prizes. Also present were association secretary Wong Ching Yong and treasurer Oliver Guo.
