50 houses make illegal power connection

KOTA KINABALU: Sabah Electricity Sdn Bhd (SESB) carried out another operation to eradicate illegal power connection that is still rampant in the state capital.

illegal connection: A SESB worker disconnecting electric wires that were connected illegally from its transformer near Kampung Lokub in Menggatal yesterday.

Yesterday’s operation was a joint effort by the Power Commission, SESB and auxiliary policemen and targeted  Kampung Lokub in Menggatal where about 50 houses were found to have made illegal power connection’s from the SESB’s sub-stations and electrical poles to their homes.

Anyone caught stealing electricity can be charged under Section 37 of the Electrical Supply Act 1990 which carries a fine of up to RM100,000.

The company would continue to monitor areas that they believed have connected electric wires illegally to their homes and urged the public to report to SESB if they know of such activity in or around their areas.
