MIRI: The US Peace Corps Anniversary Exhibit will open at Pustaka Miri today as part of its journey across Sarawak.

The commemorative photo exhibition celebrates the 50th anniversary of the US Peace Corps in Malaysia and features photos and stories of the time the volunteers spent in Malaysia, particularly Sarawak, as well as stories from Sarawakians who had personal experiences working with or learning from the volunteers.

There will be a display board reserved for visitors who have had personal experience with the Peace Corps to pin up their photographs or memorabilia.

The official launch will be held at 5pm today and the exhibition will remain on display at the library.

The photo exhibition was first launched in Kuala Lumpur on April 12, before travelling to Alor Setar, Seberang Jaya, George Town, Melaka and Kuantan before beginning its East Malaysian leg in Kuching on Sept 5.

The Peace Corps came to Malaysia between 1962 and 1983, sending more than 4,000 volunteers to work side by side with Malaysians in education, agriculture, health, and more.

Many volunteers’ lives became deeply intertwined with their adopted Malaysian communities, and the Peace Corps Anniversary Exhibit celebrates these wonderful lifelong relationships across Malaysia.
