KUCHING: Entering a beauty pageant is a way to build self-confidence, be recognised and learn public speaking.

It was also a great way to overcome stage fright and perform with confidence, shared some of the Miss Borneo Beautiful 2011’s finalists yesterday.

While there are others who may have negative perceptions of a beauty contest, 22-year-old Celestina Jong, a business management student, said a contestant must believe in herself and look forward to positive self-development.

“Ever since I joined this beauty contest, I have learnt to carry myself as a woman and citizen, and to think positive. I also learn to look good after attending grooming class.

“I used to think that beauty contests were meant for perfect ladies. However, after I joined, I realised that we are all the same and not perfect. We each have our own unique differences and each of us is special. Of course, I look forward to give back to society by doing charity activities with my title after this contest,” she told The Borneo Post yesterday.

A student doing a masters in environmental science, 23-year-old Sharifah Nadzirah said it was her determination to prove her self-worth that triggered her to take part in the contest, despite objections from family members.

She said she had learnt a lot such as how to speak confidently in front of people, how to do a catwalk, how to dance as well as how to groom oneself. She thanked Alaric Soh production for giving her a chance to take part in this meaningful event.

“It is important to know who the organiser of a beauty contest is. Alaric Soh is very professional and we have decent preview shows. A lot of people thought that beauty contestants are required to perform and entertain VIPs. But not this one, Alaric Soh is a professional organiser and we received very good treatment. I enjoyed being part of the event and I am happy throughout my training and activities here,” she pointed out.

She was excited and nervous but prepared to do her best for the grand finals tomorrow.

Another finalist, Shayndee Dunstan, 21, a student doing a bachelor in management, said all training conducted had boost her self-esteem and confidence and she had learnt to overcome disappointing situations.

She learnt positive thinking rather than being affected by negative thoughts.

“When we did fashion shows in front of a large audience who are members of the public, of course we do receive negative and positive feedback and comments…but I only absorb the positive ones because I want to move forward and stay positive,” she said, adding that she was inspired by what she saw on television to take part in the contest.

“To me, this is my passion, and as long as my family knows who I am, and I know myself, I do not care what others think of this contest because it is impossible to please everyone,” she explained.

Also a student, Natasha Nur Amarina, 21, who is now studying marine science, said the greatest self discovery and personal growth came from working with an expert pageant coach who knew how to use pageantry as a tool to develop excellence within a person.

She said all the lessons she went through, like catwalk, grooming and communication skills had made her a better person.

“I learnt how to act like a lady. I learnt how to create my own personality and communicate. This is a positive activity, although some may see it as something negative.

“Based on my own experience, I have learnt how to improve myself,” she pointed out.

She said she received various comments during fashion shows but it was okay to make mistakes as they help her improve.

KUCHING: Gelaran Miss Crown Square 2011 iaitu antara gelaran sampingan yang dipertandingkan dalam Pertandingan Miss Borneo Beautiful 2011 (MBB 2011) telah dimenangi oleh Celestina Jong.

Kemenangannya itu adalah berdasarkan undian penonton yang hadir ke pertunjukan previu MBB 2011 di Crown Square malam kelmarin.

Celestina iaitu finalis ke-14 MBB 2011 telah membawa pulang hadiah wang tunai RM500 berserta selempang selepas dinobatkan sebagai pemenang gelaran tersebut yang julung kali dipertandingkan sempena MBB 2011.

Sementara itu, seramai tiga penonton bertuah juga telah memenangi hadiah berupa baucar wang tunai daripada Crown Square.

Upacara penyampaian hadiah telah disempurnakan oleh wakil Pengurusan Crown Square Tay Kien Hong.

Seramai enam daripada finalis MBB 2011 turut memeriahkan lagi pertunjukan previu tersebut dengan membuat persembahan seperti nyanyian dan tarian.

Kesemua finalis tersebut kini berada di  Miri untuk membuat satu persembahan dan akan pulang ke Kuching bagi merebut gelaran Miss Talent 2011 pada Rabu ini.

1) What do you like about your work and studies?

Currently, I am working and studying. What I like about my job right now is that it gives me the confidence to be in front of the camera (which is something that I really enjoy) and the confidence to be with other people I am working with. This experience, in turn, teaches me how to be more professional in my interaction with people. What I like about my studies is that it is something I’m passionate about, which makes it easy for me to do study and work.

2) How are you preparing for the MBB 2011 Grand Final on November 18?

Among my preparations for the MBB 2011 Grand Final is watching what I eat so that my weight stays the same as well as taking care of my health. Mentally, while I feel excited and anxious, I have to calm my thinking so that I appear serene and don’t put myself under unnecessary stress.

3) What qualities define Miss Borneo Beautiful?

The special qualities that Miss Borneo Beautiful should have are her beauty or her good morals, as well as a positive and humble mindset. Other than that, she should always be confident and friendly. She should also be intelligent, eloquent and wise.

Singing is my passion, and I have been singing since childhood.

6) What would it mean for you to win MBB 2011?

Winning MBB 2011 would be the most meaningful experience for me because my dream is to make my beloved parents proud of me and would prove that success can be achieved in whatever field we desire in life. Other than that, I want to make my race proud and be an example for them to succeed in their respective fields.

7) Who has inspired you most in your life?

My sources of inspiration in life are Erra Fazira and Mariah Carey.

8) What makes your hometown special?

I’m from Belaga, and what makes it special is the Bakun Hydro Dam and the hydro dam located in Murum, Belaga which has brought in many outsiders. As a result, my home has been made famous throughout the world. Other than that, the diversity of ethnic groups in my area has also made it an attraction. Nowhere else in Malaysia can you find people like the Kenyah, Kayan, Kejaman (Kajang), Sihan (Penan), Sekapan (Kajang), Lahanan (Kajang) and so many more. The Rajang River is also what gives my hometown its own uniqueness.

1) What do you like about your job/studies?

I graduated in the field of human resource development. What I find interesting is the study of human behaviour in the workplace and how to deal with different people. My studies also included public relations skills and how to communicate with certain people. With these advantages, the study required me to be more understanding of human nature. Today, I am still interested to learn more about human behaviour.

2) How are you preparing for the MBB 2011 Grand Final on November 18?

As one of the finalists for MBB 2011, it is very important for me to be mentally and physically prepared. I am maintaining a balanced diet and striving to improve my posture and my catwalk skills for better poise.

Besides the tips given, the training class held by our organiser, Alaric Soh is helping me and other finalists to be more prepared for the competition. We are being trained to boost our confidence and stage presence. There is also more emphasis on communication skills and our catwalk. I will stay focused throughout the competition and of course, I will do my very best during the event!

3) What qualities define Miss Borneo Beautiful?

In my point of view, being beautiful in terms of your physical aspect is a bonus, but what makes you more special and beautiful is your brain. Meaning to say, being intelligent, having a positive attitude and perseverance.  What will differentiate you from other beautiful girls is also the effort you put into contributing to public welfare. This will prove that your beauty is also meaningful to others.

4) Do you have a message for the other MBB 2011 finalists?

To all the finalists, believe in yourself that you are all beautiful just the way you are. Keep your  beauty together with a good attitude and don’t let people underestimate you. This journey is just the beginning. Good luck, girls!

5) What skills/talents do you have that will make you stand out in the competition?

I can be described as a cheerful person and I have my own personality that I believe  people find attractive!

6) What would it mean for you to win MBB 2011?

If I was crowned the winner for MBB 2011, it would be a great achievement in my life because I have been through many situations and difficulties that require my confidence, self-esteem and physical appearance.  The competition between us, the finalists, is very high and to be able to stand out from everybody else is not easy. Winning the MBB 2011 title would be my passion’s crowning achievement.

7) Who has inspired you most in your life? Siapakah sumber inspirasi anda dalam hidup?

Those who have inspired me are people closest to my heart, particularly my family and friends. I really appreciate and am grateful to them for giving me their full support. Without their support, I might not have become an MBB finalist.

8) What makes your hometown special?

Sarawakians are blessed to be living in an environment filled with a variety of races, religions and cultures. I am a proud Kuching girl. For me, Kuching is very special because it’s famous for having a diversity of cultures and cultural influences in terms of traditional dancing, festival, foods and language. 3) What skills/talents do you have that will make you stand out in the competition?

My outstanding skills is in dance: I’ve loved dancing since my younger days in school. I prefer traditional dance like Bidayuh, Iban, Melanau, Orang Ulu, zapin, joget and so many more. Besides that, I am also a good singer – something people will get to see at the MBB 2011 Grand Final on Nov 18. I like ballads, rock songs and songs with high-pitched vocals.

4) What would it mean for you to win MBB 2011?

I would be really happy, and have greater confidence to do something I haven’t done before. I would also be making my parents proud of my abililites. In addition, I would have proven to everybody that I have my own talents and skills.

5) Who has inspired you most in your life?

My source of inspiration is my beloved mother, Lisan Najep. I am so proud of her courage and perseverance in carrying out her duties as a good mother. I am changing my unhealthy diet into a healthy one and exercising regularly. So far, I’ve already lost three kilogrammes, and able to fi t into the clothing provided for us by the pageant. I’m also practicing my catwalk more, since I’m more of a ‘boyish’ kind of person and was quite naive about what ‘feminine’ and ‘elegant’ was until Alaric Soh showed us the way.

3) What qualities defi ne Miss Borneo Beautiful?

Beauty, brains,compassion..the list is endless. It’s great to look good because its raises your confi dence level, and makes you feel good about yourself and what has been ‘gifted’ to you, but for me what really matters is the nature and personality of a person . Beauty will not last forever, but attitude will. If we understand that what we may lack in beauty can be made up for in a beautiful attitude, we are going to do just fine.

“Twinkle-twinkle little stars..how i wonder what you are..Wish we shine among the stars, together we fi ght being who we are!” I love you all, and do your best because all of you have your own beauty. All the best girls!

Talents? You will have to wait till the fi nals…Surprise!

6) What would it mean for you to win MBB 2011?

It would mean a lot to me because I have worked so hard to get to the fi nal with my family and friends’ encouragement – God bless you all – and if I win this, I want to tell and show that we Dayak girls can do anything we want to if we have the confi dence and belief in ourselves!

I hope one day, my aspiration for a healthy nation can bring about a change in our nation’s productivity and lower other undesirable ailments that Malaysians face.

1) What do you like about your studies?

Currently, I am doing my Bachelor in Commerce (Management) at Swinburne University of Technology (Sarawak). I love the conducive studying environment and the helpful lecturers. They go beyond their duty and lend a helping hand whenever we need any assistance.

2) How are you preparing for the MBB grand final on November 18? 

To prepare for MBB 2011 in November, I have been watching my diet more strictly as well as visiting the gym to tone up my body. Other than conditioning my body for the finals, I have also been preparing myself mentally for this prestigious event as this is my first beauty pageant. I believe that, not only do I have to look good; I also need to have the confidence too.

3) What qualities define Miss Borneo Beautiful? 

I strongly believe that Miss Borneo Beautiful should not only look good and be fashionable, she should also have compassion and intelligence. Ultimately, it’s about how Miss Borneo Beautiful can give back to society and influence our people positively.

4) Do you have a message to other MBB contestants? 

I would like to take this opportunity to wish all my fellow finalists all the best and regardless of the results, it has been an enjoyable time indeed. I look forward to the beautiful memories that we will have leading up to the final night

5) What skills/talents do you have that will make you stand out in the competition? 

Other than being a debater — I was very active in debating during my tertiary education days — I believe that being able to adapt well and creatively to every situation is easier said than done. It is not easy to work with what you have and I believe that I am able to adapt well in various situations

6) What would it mean for you to win MBB 2011? 

Winning the MBB title would mean the first step of my plans towards promoting healthy living. I believe that I would be able to better convey and contribute back to society about a healthy lifestyle and to help  Malaysia’s population evolve into a health-conscious society by setting an example myself.

My mother. She has been a pillar of strength all my life, always supporting in the background and never claiming credit for my achievements.

Even though Kuching is not such a robust city, it is special in its own way as the people are sincere and warm to others. It is the people that makes it special.

KUCHING: In anticipation of the upcoming Miss Borneo Beautiful (MBB) 2011 pageant, a preview show will be held at Crown Square Shopping Mall this Saturday.

MBB pageant followers who cannot wait to get a glimpse of the 18 finalists before the grand final can come for the show at 8pm on the second floor, where the MBB finalists will introduce themselves.

Six of them will also be performing for the night’s talent segment.

A subsidiary title, Miss Crown Square 2011, will be awarded at the preview show where the winner will be taking home a RM500 cash prize.

The winner of this subsidiary title will be decided by a tally of votes from the audience.

There will also be a lucky draw with prizes consisting of Crown Square cash vouchers worth RM50 each for three lucky voters.

3) What qualities define Miss Borneo Beautiful? 

Miss Borneo Beautiful should have ’maternal’ qualities. Motherhood, for me, is a symbol of somebody who is caring, warm, friendly, courteous, responsible and nurturing towards herself and to others. These qualities are the ultimate traits of female perfection.

4) Do you have a message to other MBB contestants? 

Win or not, we each share the same perfection and beauty. While the winner is the symbol of the competition, it doesn’t follow that the other finalists are second-rate or of less calibre. Our shared experience throughout this competition is invaluable.

5) What skills/talents do you have that will make you stand out in the competition? 

I am quite meticulous in that I always do my research first before I do something. A person who will study up on the world of beauty pageants diligently and efficiently has what it takes to be the finalist for this competition.

6) What would it mean for you to win MBB 2011? 

Winning the title would be such a big event in the story of my life. It would give me an extraordinary boost to work towards being an extraordinary woman of Borneo.

7) Who has inspired you most in your life? 

My mother, Mrs Jera Mat. She’s a Penan woman with an extraordinary intellect, and a woman who takes special care of her appearance.

8) What makes your hometown special? 

I was born and raised in Long Lapok, a predominantly Penan area. That being said, I am of Malay and Penan heritage. Although some may not agree with me, Long Lapok is a fantastic place. The Penans are a unique people. You have to go through life among the Penan people as I did. Since Long Lapok is only an hour away from Miri, visitors can enjoy both the city and the countryside for an enriching experience.

1) What do you like about your studies?

I am an environment-lover, so studying about the environment makes me appreciate it more and be able to analyse the cause of environment-related problems. Now I’m applying what I’ve learned in my studies to my daily life by reducing plastic usage, recycling, walking more and cutting down on energy wastage.

2) How are you preparing for the MBB grand final on November 18?

I am exercising and controlling my food intake to stay in shape. I practice singing in order to perform for my talent during the finale.

Miss Borneo Beautiful should be friendly, intelligent and most importantly, confident.

4) Do you have a message to other MBB contestants?

I am just going to be myself and sing my best in order to stand out in this competition to capture the hearts of the audience and the judges.

It would mean so much to win this competition. I’ve never joined any pageants before but to win this would mean that I would be a role model to all the Borneo girls out there and have a shot at professional modelling. It’s a tough responsibility but I’m ready for it.

My father. He always inspired me through the way he raised me and the sacrifices he made for me. He is my hero and motivated me to be independent, a better person and always work on improving myself.

Kuching is a place where I’m happy to live. The food, cultures and the local scenery are just breathtaking. Kuching City is very clean and the people here are friendly with the tourists. Sarawak Cultural Village is the best place to go to see the diverse cultures of Sarawak in one place.

I keep a good diet, exercise regularly, and take care of my health.

Be yourself, take care of yourself, your health, and especially your public image so that you represent the best that MBB has to offer and maintain the integrity of this pageant for the benefi t of the organiser and the other fi nalists.

5) What skills/talents do you have that will make you stand out in the competition?

Dancing.

6) What would it mean for you to win MBB 2011?

It would mean so much for me to win MBB 2011 because the Executive Diploma in Hospitality in Tourism scholarship worth RM11,000 offered by UCSI University Sarawak Campus would go a long way in helping me lessen my parent’s financial responsibilities.

7) Who has inspired you most in your life?

Kim Kardashian.

8) What makes your hometown special?

The people are modest, responsible and hardworking, living expenses are affordable, and we rarely have traffic jams. The Miss Borneo Beautiful 2011 Grand Final Show and Dinner will be held on Nov 18, 2011 at Riverside Majestic Hotel, Kuching.

I enjoy seeing numbers and playing with them. It gives me the ultimate satisfaction at the end of the day upon completing a challenging task.

I’ve prepared myself physically and mentally. I keep myself healthy, in shape and hone my skills to highlight my talent while at the same time making sure that I am presentable at the same time.

Confidence, intelligence, humility and being down-to-earth.

Be true to yourself and the people around you. Be confident, enjoy the moment and good luck!

My communication skills and my ability to adapt to any environment pretty well.

It means happiness to me as they entrust me with the title and the responsibility to prove that they have made the right decision in choosing me.

My parents.

I believe that the unity our people share, despite the differences in race, religion and culture makes it special beside the fact that we also have a very wide variety of interesting dishes to try and is a great place to visit.

1) What do you like about your job?

I love my job as I love travelling so much. The best part of being a flight attendant is I can travel around the globe and make money at the same time! Beside that, I get to see different places, meet a lot of people, experience their cultures and lifestyles, and sample their food. It makes me feel great and appreciate every single thing that I do and don’t have in my life. It teaches me to be more grateful, appreciative and learn more about the values that we should have and practice in our daily lives.

2) How are you preparing for the MBB 2011 Grand Final on November 18?

Miss Borneo Beautiful is an important event for me and requires countless effort. Although I am busy with my job, I still manage to make some preparation for this event by doing some exercises to keep fi t and to get into my best shape. Mental preparation is also essential because a healthy physique comes from a healthy and peaceful mind. Apart from that, of course, I must be confident and do my very best in this competition.

3) What qualities define Miss Borneo Beautiful?

I believe everybody has a different opinion. As for me, the quality that Miss Borneo Beautiful must have other than beauty, intelligence and self-confi dence is how to portray herself in public. Likewise, maturity, humility, politeness and sincerity will make people adore Miss Borneo Beautiful.

4) Do you have a message for the other MBB 2011 finalists?

Be well-prepared (physically and mentally), confident and stay beautiful in and out. Let us cherish the wonderful moments and experiences throughout this competition and learn as much as we can. I wish each and every one of us all the best!

5) What skills/talents do you have that will make you stand out in the competition?

I would say, believing that I can do everything in life as long as I work hard and that my goal is something beneficial and worthwhile to have and achieve. Beside that, I can dance traditional dances and I love to share anything that’s good and can make people feel positive and happy!

6) What would it mean for you to win MBB 2011?

Most important events only come once in a lifetime, winning Miss Borneo Beautiful is one of them for me. It is an achievement that I can be proud of as it will prove that nothing is impossible in life when we have faith and really work hard for it.

7) Who has inspired you most in your life?

I would say my parents and my family. They have always inspired me in their own way and they are always there for me.

8) What makes your hometown special?

My hometown is so special in its own way. It’s a well known tourism destination, the second city in the state and has a unique mixture of races and culture, and of course, its local cuisine!

1) What do you like about your studies?

I gain the benefit of getting involved in groups and activities that have given me the opportunity to meet new people. It helps me to explore an area that I thought about but had not been involved in before. Plus, It helps me to discover my hidden talents or new passions. I discover a new career path by participating in clubs or organizations that leads me in new directions. It has given me the opportunities to increase my self-esteem and develop my leadership qualities.

2) How are you preparing for the MBB Grand Final on November 18?

I always make sure that I maintain a good nutritional diet as well as proper physical fitness. In addition, I make a concentrated effort to keep up with things that are going on in the world: I read a newspaper every day, watch BBC and other news programmes. I practice my best style or posture for a model walking on a runway, focusing particularly on making strong eye contact and performance techniques to communicate and connect with the audience. I have also taken advantage of every opportunity to perform my talent in my campus clubs or organisations, in church choirs and family or friends gatherings. I also ask for help and opinions from my trainer or professionals.

3) What qualities define Miss Borneo Beautiful?

I believe there are certain qualities that Miss Borneo Beautiful must possess. To get that crown, you must be eloquent in your speech, have stage presence, and a good catwalk. These are the differences between a fashion show and a beauty pageant. After the coronation, you will be seen as an ambassador representing your institution and your state as a whole. Moreover, you can be an endorsement for commercial products or services.

4) Do you have a message for the other MBB 2011 finalists?

To all the finalists, take this competition as challenge that you are willing to accept. Be a problem-solver, not a complainer. Give it your best shot!

I believe my interpersonal skills will make me stand out in this competition.

6) What would it mean for you to win MBB 2011?

Miss Borneo Beautiful has a role to play in society. Being MBB is not about winning but gaining valuable experiences to share to the world especially about the cultures of other people.

My parents.

8) What makes your hometown special?

Mukah is a small fishing town and the heartland of the Melanaus. The major attraction in the area is the lively beach festival known as the Kaul Festival, which is celebrated by the Melanaus in order to honour the spirits of the sea. Another attraction is traditional Melanau delicacies such as the Sago palettes, Tebaloi, Umai, Sago worms among other things.

2) How are you preparing for the MBB grand final on November 18?

I’m preparing myself physically and mentally for the upcoming pageant. I am making sure that I watch what I eat, workout and at the same time practice my catwalk at home.

3) What qualities define Miss Borneo Beautiful?

Miss Borneo Beautiful must have a good IQ because to me, what is beauty without brains, right? Miss Borneo Beautiful also has to portray a good attitude and have a pleasant personality.

4) Do you have a message to other MBB contestants?

I would like to wish the other MBB fi nalists all the best and let’s just have fun and enjoy the experience.

5) What skills/talents do you have that will make you stand out in the competition?

Since I love to sing and I always perform in my church choir, I would say that my singing talent will make me stand out in the competition.

6) What would it mean for you to win MBB 2011?

It would mean a lot because fi rstly, I am interested in the scholarship prize offered by UCSI University Sarawak Campus, because education is very important to me. I believe that there is no limit in gaining knowledge in life.

7) Who has inspired you most in your life?

My mum. She inspires me to be the best in life and I am who I am now because of her.

8) What makes your hometown special?

My hometown is indeed very special to me because I was born and raised here in Kuching and it is a beautiful place because it is rich in cultural diversity. The idea of so many different ethnic groups living together under 1 roof is awesome.

1) What do you like about your studies?

I like my studies a lot, especially when it comes to scuba diving. Being a nature lover, the experience makes me realise how much underwater life humans have yet to explore and how Borneo is rich with natural resources that need to be conserved for our future generations.

2) How are you preparing for the MBB 2011 grand fi nal on November 18?

I am giving my best effort to apply all the advice and beauty tips given by Alaric Soh. He has been giving us the best guidelines and been very patient to train us to be beautiful in our own ways from both the physical aspects and our inner selves.

3) What qualities defi ne Miss Borneo Beautiful?

Since the Miss Borneo Beauty pageant is about beauty with intelligence, I would say Miss Borneo Beautiful should not only be beautiful, but should also be wise in many ways. Intelligence is not all about academics, it is about how wise you are carrying yourself in society and the way you approach people and diffi cult situations.

4) Do you have a message to the other MBB 2011 contestants?

Girls, be confi dent, do your best, and may the best be the winner!

5) What skills/talents do you have that will make you stand out in the competition?

Talent-wise, I would say dance, but the strongest skill for competing is to always be confident and be yourself especially when you are on stage where people will be judging and observing you.

6) What would it mean for you to win MBB 2011?

It would mean a lot and would be the most memorable and exciting moment in my life, since everyone here has worked very hard towards winning the title. I would feel like all my effort throughout the journey in this pageant was worth it and being appreciated. With the title, I would be able to contribute more towards promoting our culture to other countries.

7) Who has inspired you most in your life?

I can’t really state one person because there are a lot of people who have inspired me throughout my life and it would be unfair if I just said one person. So I am going to say it should be the people who have been supporting me towards becoming the personI am now, especially my family and all my friends.

8) What makes your hometown special?

Kuching is most likely different from other places because of its multiracial andmulticultural aspects that enable people in one community to live together withouthaving any racial crises. This shows the employment of Malaysia’s slogan 1Malaysia.Due to its multiracial background, Kuchingites are best known for their openness inaccepting and exploring each others’ cultures.

1) What do you like about your studies?

I enjoy studying because Sports Studies is a passion I’ve had since I first took Taekwondo as an extracurricular activity in school. I wish to have my own gymnasium one day.

2) How are you preparing for the MBB 2011 grand final on November 18?

I will be focusing more on my catwalk and doing lots of practicing. Other than that, I need to keep myself physically and mentally prepared for the schedule and everything that comes my way.

3) What qualities define Miss Borneo Beautiful?

In my opinion, I would say beauty with brains. A young lady with inner and outer beauty, as well as other qualities like confi dence, modesty, kindness, patience and courage has what it takes to be a winner.

4) Do you have a message to the other MBB 2011 contestants?

I would like to congratulate all the finalists that made it to this stage and may all of them enjoy this journey all the way to the crowning moment. It’s a competition, but what matters most is not the destination, but what you have gained along the journey.

5) What skills/talents do you have that will make you stand out in the competition?

I can dance and perform my martial arts moves.

6) What would it mean for you to win MBB 2011?

It would be my greatest pleasure and indeed, my biggest achievement as well.

Bintulu is an industrial town which is also in the limelight because of the Sarawak Corridor of Renewable Energy (SCORE). Since we also host the International Kite Festival, it is fast becoming a tourist destination for people from all over the world. Bintulu is a place like no other because it’s a peaceful place that boasts ethnic diversity.

1) What do you like about your work?

The way I have to entertain people with our programmes and think about how I can convey the messages to my viewers and audience. I love working in front of the camera as a presenter and behind the scenes as an assistant producer (SA).

2) How are you preparing for the MBB 2011 grand final on November 18?

I will prepare everything before the fi nal night, especially for my talent segment. I’ll also be making sure my catwalk, my personality, and my health are all perfect and in good condition.

3) What qualities define Miss Borneo Beautiful?

To me, Miss Borneo Beautiful has to have a good personality inside and out. The way she smiles, her confi dence and how she communicates with people around her are also invaluable characteristics for the winner of MBB 2011.

4) Do you have a message to the other MBB 2011 contestants?

I would like to say: Do your best for the fi nal night. Show your talents, girls, and thank God because we are so lucky to have beautiful personalities. To me, all of us are beautiful in our own way and everyone deserves to win, but only one can be the winner.

5) What skills/talents do you have that will make you stand out in the competition?

I believe that I have my own talent and good personality. I love the camera! I can make a lot of poses when the camera’s on!

6) What would it mean for you to win MBB 2011?

To me, if I win MBB 2011, I will be proud of myself because I have achieved my dreams of becoming a model one day. I really mean it. It is not easy for me to gain a lot of experience and build up my confi dence to join this MBB. If you win the title, it means you are a success, and it becomes a meaningful moment to be remembered the rest of your life.

7) Who has inspired you most in your life?

My family and our Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak.

8) What make your hometown special?

There are a lot of special things about my hometown, Kuching. The food, the places and the cultures. We have Tinot laksa (the most delicious laksa in Kuching), Santubong and the cultures of Sarawak like Iban, Bidayuh, Melanau here.
