MIRI: Martial arts can become a platform for people around the globe to get together irrespective of their races and religions.

Telang Usan assemblyman Dennis Ngau said the art of self-defence is a good sport and encouraged more people to take it up as it can be a uniting factor to bring people of all races and backgrounds from throughout the world together.

“There is no hatred among martial arts practitioners and everyone should be united together irrespective of skin colour and beliefs,” he said at the closing of 10th South East Asia Leadership Seminar (SEALS) on Wednesday.

More than 180 people from various countries including Malaysia, Australia and USA attended the dinner which was held at Imperial Hotel here.

Touching on the seminar, he said it was also one of the ways to attract foreign tourists to Miri City.

“This is something very positive that brings tourists from different countries to Miri to enjoy the uniqueness of our city,” he said.

In view of that, he wanted the seminar to be widely promoted.

Also speaking at the closing ceremony dinner were World Moo Duk Kwan president Grandmaster H.C Hwang from Korea and organising chairman Master Simon Augustine.

Among those present were Soo Bahk Do Miri president Belawan Riyu and seminar advisor Dunstan Langgi.

Various programmes such as self-defence sessions, discussions on martial arts, briefing and visits to places of interest in Miri were held during the seven-day seminar.

The next SEAL will be held in 2013 in Adelaide, Australia.
