Muaythai action at Kuching Amphitheatre this weekend

KUCHING: Kuching Amphitheatre at Jalan Taman Budaya here will see muaythai action today and tomorrow when exponents from all over Sarawak gather for the first-ever Bandarayaku Challenge Cup Muaythai Tournament.

The event – organised by Sarawak Muaythai Association (PMNS) in collaboration with Kuching North City Commission (DBKU) and Kuching Resident’s Office – will take place from 9am to 5pm daily. Entrance is free.

According to PMNS, the inaugural tournament will also conduct the selection of athletes to represent the Southern Zone in Sarawak Games (SukSar) 2017, to be held at Sarawak Stadium here in mid-Dec.

The tryout involving 12 bouts will be on Saturday.

On Sunday, spectators can catch the exciting pro bouts involving four contenders.

The four – all under the 71kg Class – are Ting Chek Tee of PS Muaythai Bintulu, Mohd Eswandy Hassan of SS Fighters Kuching, Readyson Keloni of Lundu Muaythai Club and Romuald Ruiz Lee Ismaily of Phoenix Muaythai Club Meranek, Samarahan.

The Superfight 51kg bout will see Hunsson Kayan of Kenyalang Muaythai Club facing off Awang Abdul Rahman of PS Muaythai Bintulu while Rifdean Masdor of Kuching will be up against Mohammad Shahren Haqimi Mohd Rashis of Jengking Brothers (Selangor) in the Youth 37kg Invitational Bout.

Another highlighted Pro Youth fight will feature the 48kg encounter between Mohd Pirdaus Mood and Muhd Azhar.

In the Children 24kg Invitational Bout, Syarif Nukman Norman of Sarawak will meet Muhammad Shahmi Adha Mohd Rashis of Jengking Brothers (Selangor) while the Pro Women’s Bout (45kg) will be between Ayu Aryna Faiza Azmi of Kenyalang Muaythai Club (Kuching) and Ranti Niza Jina of Lundu.
