One killed, three seriously injured in freak accident

KUANTAN: One motorcyclist was killed and three others injured after their motorcycles were involved in a freak accident that involved a car accompanying the Tengku Mahkota of Pahang, Tengku Abdullah Sultan Ahmad Shah, at KM12 Jalan Kuantan-Sungai Lembing here Saturday.

Pillion rider Mohd Azman Mazlan, 17, from Felda Bukit Goh here died on the spot, while Wan Shukri Mohamad, 17 and Mohd Azman’s brother Mohd Azim, 19, who was the pillion rider on another motorcycle, sustained serious injuries.

The rider of the motor-cycle where Mohd Azim was a pillion rider, escaped with minor injuries.

The accident occurred at about 3pm when the royal entourage was on its way to Kuala Lumpur while the four friends were going fishing in Kampung Padang.

According to Kuantan deputy police chief Supt Zulkifli Taha, the accident occurred when the motorcycle carrying Mohd Azim tried to overtake another vehicle, but grazed a car, causing them to fall.

“Wan Shukri who was trailing behind tried to avoid hitting his friends bike but lost control of his machine, skidded and fell onto the opposite side of the road before being grazed by a car accompanying Tengku Abdullah,” he told reporters here.

The body of Mohd Azman was sent to Tengku Ampuan Afzan Hospital for a post-mortem while the injured were sent for treatment at the same hospital. — Bernama
