Size of NS camps now increased to 12ha, says D-G

KOTA BAHARU: All National Service (NS) Training Programme campsbuilt after 2007 must have an acreage of 12 hectares to ensure trainees can undergothe programme comfortably and safely.

National Service TrainingDepartment directorgeneral Datuk Abdul Hadi Awang Kechil said for camps built prior to 2007,their minimum size must beeight hectares.

He told this to reportersafter sending off Kelantan’s first batch of NS trainees forthis year, here yesterday At the ceremony, 712trainees were sent off to the NS camps in Kelantan an Pahang by boarding 17 buses owned by the department.

He said the department for the first time was using itsown buses and that each buswas equipped with the Global Positioning Systemto monitor their movement. “Each camp will beprovided with five buses for the trainees to undergo training outside the camp,to perform Friday prayersand to follow schedule programmes,” said Abdul Hadi.

He said by having its own buses, the department couldlessen dependence on bus operators who could causedelays like what had happened in 2007 where trainees werestranded nationwide.

He added that thedepartment had alsointroduced a new menu for the trainees based on thecalorie level required by each trainee which was2,500. — Bernama
