Foundation donates computers to schools

MIRI: Two rural Chinese schools in the Miri division were the first to receive 16 computers from the CIMB Bank Berhad Foundation via its ‘Corporate Social Responsibility’ (CSR) initiative community link programme.SJK Chung Hua Sibuti and SJK Chin Nam, Niah received eight computers each worth a total RM33,000 yesterday.

“We want to embark and upgrade Information Communication Technology (ICT) for rural schools in Miri, hence enhancing the lives of those within the neighbourhood,” said CIMB Bank area retail manager Mohamad Daud Abdul Hamid yesterday.

“CIMB Foundation believes that every child should have access to ICT education and we will do our part to ensure that equal opportunity is given to all students,” he added.

The CIMB Foundation was established in late 2007 to spearhead the CSR initiatives under the community link programme.

Since May 2007, he said the community link programme has been involved close to 300 initiatives nationwide, with an estimated cost of RM14million for various projects including fostering family and community development, environmental protection, healthcare and promoting culture and arts in society.

Among those present yesterday to witness the handing over of computer were Miri Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MCCCI) chairman Datuk Sim Hock Guan, vice-chairman Pemanca Lee Sie Tong and CIMB Bank Berhad regional director regional office East Malaysia (consumer sales and distribution) Ali Adar.

The bank is collaborating with MCCCI to distribute the assistance to rural schools.

SJK Chung Hua Sibuti headmaster Chai Fui Leong and SJK Chin Nan Batu Niah headmaster Yong Hin Kiam received the assistance on behalf of the schools.
