Woman suffers RM2,000 losses in snatch theft

KUCHING: A woman from Semariang here reported losses amounting to RM2,000 after an unidentified man snatched her handbag from inside her car on Thursday.The incident happened around 8.30am when the 30-something woman was walking her child towards a pre-school in Taman Sri Wangi, several metres away from where she had parked her car.

From the corner of her eye, the woman caught a figure of a man dashing towards her car, and turned around to see him opening the driver’s door before reaching over to grab her handbag, which she had placed beneath the front passenger seat.

The handbag contained about RM1,500 in cash, several computer pen drives and a number of important personal documents.

The incident happened so fast that the woman could only watch helplessly as the man escaped from the scene with an accomplice waiting on a motorcycle not far away.

She lodged a report later the same day and police are investigating.

In an unrelated incident, a security guard escaped uninjured after he was held up at knife-point and made to surrender his wallet by two unknown men.

The incident happened late Wednesday when the 20-year-old victim from Santubong was accosted by the duo while at Medan Pelita and threatened with a knife to hand over his wallet.

Fearing for his safety, the guard did as he was told and the two men fled the scene on foot with his wallet, which contained roughly RM900 and some personal documents.

The victim lodged a police report the following day and the case is being investigated.
