Molotov cocktails thrown at church, school guard post

IPOH: A church and a school guard post in Taiping, 95km from here, were thrown with molotov cocktails early yesterday, Perak Police Chief Datuk Zulkifli Abdullah said.

No damage to the All Saints Church in Jalan Taming Sari while the guard post at Sekolah Menengah Convent suffered only a minor damage.

He said church keeper realised the incident at 7.30am and reported the matter to the police.

Police, who went to the scene, found two black spots on the church wall and two broken bottles believed to have been used in the incident, he said when contacted.

On the incident at Sekolah Menengah Convent, he said, the school’s security guard realised the incident at about 3.30am.

He added that police believed the incidents were perpetrated by opportunist individuals out to take advantage of the current issue. — Bernama

He said police had stepped up the monitoring of houses of worship in the state and urged the public to remain calm.
