Driving school supervisor claims trial to soliciting RM750 bribe

SHAH ALAM: A supervisor of a driving school claimed trial in the Sessions Court here yesterday to soliciting a RM750 bribe from a teenager as an inducement for the latter to pass the computerised test to obtain the learner (L) driving licence more than two years ago.M Ramal, 42, of Banting, was accused of soliciting the money from M Gunasegaran, 18, at the Cemerlang Driving School, Jalan Bunga Pekan, Kawasan 6, Banting, at about 3pm on Nov 21, 2007.

Ramal, who was arrested on Dec 5, 2007, was allowed bail of RM2,500 in one surety by Judge Syafeera Mohd Said who set March 15 for mention of the case to enable Ramal engage a lawyer.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Ng Siew Wee of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) prosecuted.

The Anti-Corruption Act 1997 provides for a jail sentence of between 14 days and 20 years and a fine of five times the amount of bribe or RM10,000, whichever is higher, upon conviction. — Bernama
