Sugar consignment under strict watch

SIBU: The Ministry of Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism (MDTCC) is tightening security on the newly arrived bulk shipment of 615 metric tonnes of sugar here.Its branch head Balraj Singh said he had stationed four enforcement officers at Rejang Port to check on the shipment of the sugar.

“The fresh stock will be transported to four wholesalers here tomorrow morning (today),” Balraj assured yesterday when asked about the latest shipment.

The four officers, he said, would later escort the delivery of the commodity to the wholesalers’ warehouses.

The new stock is to cater for the coming festive celebration.

As the stock is meant for the central region, the commodity would later be distributed to places such as Selangau, Dalat, Mukah,Kanowit and others.

“The wholesalers are working closely with us to ensure sufficient supply of sugar for the people.

“We appreciate their co-operation,” he said.

On enforcement front, he assured the public that his officers are constantly on the ground to check on traders to ensure that they do not manipulate on the supply of controlled items.
