YTL announces US$1 mln prize for world-class 4G innovation

KUALA LUMPUR: YTL Communications Sdn Bhd, a communications provider poised to launch Malaysia’s first nationwide 4G network, yesterday announced the US$1 million ‘mYprize’ global developer challenge.The competition is designed to inspire entrepreneurs and innovators worldwide to create exciting new 4G mobile Internet products and services for Malaysian deployment, it said in a statement.

YTL said the ‘mYprize’ is aimed at challenging developers to create original applications and devices for YTL Communications’ nationwide 4G mobile Internet network set to be commercially launched later this year.

“We believe this exciting ‘mYprize’ global developer challenge is a strategic impetus in propelling Malaysia into a truly cutting-edge incubation centre for 4G innovations,” said YTL Communications’ chief executive officer Wing K Lee.

The company confident that the applications and devices will help accelerate the mission of providing affordable, world-class quality products and services to improve the way people in Malaysia learn, work and play, he said.

“Our YTL 4G innovation network expands the 4G ecosystem and enables the next wave of mobile internet innovations by connecting the best minds across the globe in developing new consumer products,” Lee said.

“The network is linked with the Clearwire 4G Wimax innovation network in Silicon Valley, a global hotbed for innovations, and provides developers opportunities for commercialisation in Malaysia and beyond,” he said.

He also said that developers are able to incubate their ideas, with support from the world leaders in mobile Internet, giving people in Malaysia a new level of experience with products and services optimised for a high bandwidth, low latency 4G mobile Internet.

Interested developers can go to the ‘mYprize’ portal at www.myprize.my to get more details, register and submit their entries online from Jan 8 until May 1, 2010.
