2009 a great year for Bank Rakyat

SARIKEI: 2009 has been a great year for Bank Kerjasama Rakyat Malaysia (Bank Rakyat).According to a press release issued in conjunction with the grand prize presentation ceremony for its 1Aslah Personal Finacing-I here recently, the bank bagged numerous awards and accolades for its outstanding performance and contribution in the Islamic Banking sector.

In 2009, being the country’s largest co-operative bank, Bank Rakyat won the 2008/2009 Anugerah Sumber Manusia Terbaik Malaysia and Excellent Human Resources (Silver).

In conjunction with Kuala Lumpur Islamic Finance forum (KLIFF) it won the most Outstanding Islamic Finance Retail Banking the Dewan Bahasa Dan Pustaka’s Hadiah Kecemerlangan Bahasa Institusi Perbankan 2009 (Development Financial Institution) category.

Rating Agency Malaysia (RAM) reaffirmed the bank’s long and short term financial institution rating at AA3 and P1 respectively with stable outlook in 2008, the statement added.

Based on the Asian banker 300 Report (2009/2010 Edition) Bank Rakyat was ranked second in Asia Pacific for its Return On Asset (ROA), thus placing Bank Rakyat as number one in Malaysia.

The bank was also ranked second for highest profit increase in Malaysia and for its Cost Income Ration and ranked fifth for its Return On Equity.

In conjunction with last year’s Co-operative Day, Bank Rakyat bagged three awards namely “Anugerah 10 Koperasi Terbaik ; Anugerah Pemberian Dividen Kluster Besar and anugerah Kategory Khas Pengikhtirafan Berdasarkan Prestasi.”

The achievement was mainly attributed to the variety of banking products and services such as the consumer and commercial financing as well as savings and investment products in its effort to provide a complete banking facilities for its members and customers.

The bank which celebrated its 55th anniversary last year and has operated based on Syariah principles since 2003, has 122 branches equipped with over 350 Auto Teller Machines (ATM) and Cash Deposit Machines as well as 15 Ar Rahnu X’Change (pawn) nationwide.
