They seized around 106 grammes of Syabu sent via courier service from Johore around 1pm on Friday following public tip-offs. The seizure was the first this year.

Local police chief (OCPD) Jamaluddin Ibrahim said the arrests and seizure were made during two separate ambushes at Jalan Adenium off MDL Garden and Pujut Padang Kerbau.

One of the three suspects (a man and two women) is assistant manager of a local private company.

The consignment was believed to be for a 28-year-old jobless male suspect. The other suspect is a salesgirl.

Earlier on, the man went to a courier service centre in the city to pick up the consignment. After that he asked the women to collect it from a postman who was on his way to deliver letters to a government office at Jalan Adenium.

The two suspects were arrested on their way out from the building after they collected the consignment.

The two suspects then led the police to a house in Pujut Padang Kerbau here to arrest the 28-year-old suspect.  The man is believed to be a drug pusher and has a drug-abuse record.

The seized Syabu is believed to be meant for local distribution.

The case is still under investigation and when completed the trio is likely to be charged in court. They could face a mandatory death sentence.

In a separate case, a disc jockey (DJ) and a bartender of an entertainment house were arrested for possession of Ketamine and Ecstasy.

They were arrested on Jan 14 during a crime prevention round.

Meanwhile, Jamaluddin disclosed that the police will be going all out in their fight against drug by intensifying their crime prevention beat.

He warned operators of entertainment houses not to allow drug-abuse activities in their premises.

The police will also take action against them if they open beyond 2.30am on weekends and 1.30am during weekdays.
