KUALA TERNGGANU: Terengganu Customs seized 7,000kg of firecrackers and sparklers, worth RM210,000 with duty amounting to RM136,000, in an operation in Cerul Estate, Sri Bandi, Kemaman, on Thursday.Its director Datuk Azis Yacub said the contraband items were found in a five-tonne lorry found abandoned in the area at 3am.
“We received information that there was a five-tonne lorry laden with the contraband items being left in the area. “Yet, after waiting for almost an hour, nobody came to claim the vehicle,” he told reporters, here, yesterday.
He said the initial investigation revealed that the items were smuggled from a neighbouring country and believed to be for distribution in Kuala Lumpur and Selangor. —Bernama
