Sibu District Rela Officer Lieutenant Colonel Moses Sipan said it was most important for them to do so promptly to safeguard their welfare and that of their families in event of mishaps.

Moses said among others, the scheme will entitle them to other benefits including easing their hospitalisation cost and others.

“It is sad to note that there is still  a large number of our members, who have yet to take up the Rela Insurance Scheme, meant to cover them and their families in event of any accident,” he told The Borneo Post in an interview at their recruitment drive at Farley Supermarket, Jalan Salim here yesterday.

Among those present was Captain Stephen Ting – area head of communication.

The drive was open for registration from 9.30am till 5.30pm.

Moses stressed that although it was not compulsory for them to do so, they were encouraged to take the scheme for their own good.

Dwelling briefly into the scheme, he revealed that it covered among others, hospitalisation benefits.

According to Moses, an affected member would be paid RM100 a day if he was hospitalised up to three months.

Towards this end, he assured that the scheme will not burden members as they are only required to pay RM40 each year.

Asked why members have yet to take the insurance scheme, he reckoned this could be due to lack of awareness.

Hence, he hoped platoon leaders would help disseminate the information to those under their care to encourage them to take up the scheme. Alternatively, those keen can also drop by personally at their office at Blok 1, Tingkat 3, Wisma Persekutuan, Jalan Fong Ming or contact them at  084-314620 during office hours.

On the recruitment drive, he was pleased to note of the encouraging response from members of the public.

He advised interested individual to bring along two copies of their most recent photographs (I/C size) and a photocopy of their MyKad, adding that the next round will be on Jan 24 at the same venue.
