PUTRAJAYA: Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin yesterday launched the MyID initiative that uses the MyKad number as the sole reference number for Malaysians in their transactions as an individual with the government agencies.

The Deputy Prime Minister said the launching of the MyID initiative was an effort at improving the service delivery system and facilitating everyone in making whatever transactions with the government agencies.

He said the initiative aspired by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak was based on the concept of “1 Number For All Transactions” which would speed up and facilitate all transactions with the government agencies.

“This move will assist the people to access information and so on, just by remembering the number of their identity card, no matter where they are and for whatever purpose.

“This is the one number for all which the prime minister had mentioned.

“We have started to implement it,” he told reporters at the launching of the MyID initiative and Conference of Heads of Public Sector Agencies at the Putrajaya International Convention Centre, here yesterday.

Also present were   Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Senator Datuk Seri Idris Jala, Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Mohd Sidek Hassan, director-general of the Public Service Department Tan Sri Ismail Adam and director-general of the Malaysian Administrative Modernisation and Manpower Planning Unit (Mampu) Datuk Normah Md Yusof.

Muhyiddin said with the introduction of the MyID initiative, people no longer have to keep or memorise the various reference numbers which sometimes posed problems to them whenever they lost or could not remember one of the numbers.

“The move also reduces waiting time and congestion at the counters, the people no longer need to keep many documents which sometimes get lost or are untraceable. This is a radical change,” he said.

From the security aspect or anything that could pose a threat to the country, he said government agencies were allowed to create a second stage review mechanism to confirm the identity of the consumer before a transaction was carried out.

So far, he said 760 services provided by the public service agencies at the federal and state government levels had used the MyID.

“In order to ensure excellence in the government delivery system, I urge all government agencies to implement the MyID initiative immediately,” he said.

Earlier in his speech, Muhyiddin said the public sector must give emphasis to four aspects, namely the effective management of change; strengthening the culture of innovation; enculturation of the learning organisation; and redefining the role of the public sector in efforts to make the government transformation initiative a success.

He said this was because the challenge faced by the country generally and the public sector particularly was significant and the role of department heads was most critical in leading the transformation initiative that had been started. – Bernama
