Scheduled completion possible despite inclement weather, says Dr Soon

SIBU: The RM1 million works to improve Then Kung Suk Road, off Lanang Road, are progressing smoothly, noted Datuk Dr Soon Choon Teck, the Assistant Minister of Housing and Urban Development.

Speaking to reporters during an inspection of the road yesterday, he said there had been many complaints about the flood-prone road.

“The road sits on a low-lying area, and hopefully when the Sibu Municipal Council has completed the upgrading works, it won’t be flooded so often,” he added.

According to Dr Soon, works are scheduled for completion within two months from now but that delay looks unavoidable because of the rainy season.

Nonetheless, he said he was happy with the work progress despite rain that fell almost every day.

According to him, the roadside ditches would also be upgraded under the project.

Dr Soon went on to say that the frequent flooding on Jerriwit Timur Road had been mitigated with the completion of drainage improvement works by the Drainage and Irrigation Department (DID) recently.

“Rain water in Jerriwit Road and Sentosa area can now be smoothly drained off into the Rajang River,” he said.
