TAWAU: The people have been advised to take extra precautions against burglaries during the coming Chinese New Year celebration.

The advice came from MCA Tawau Complaint Bureau chief Pang Chi Hung who told the media yesterday after receiving a complaint from one of their members whose house at Jalan Air Panas here was ransacked by a group of a well-organised house break-in syndicate.

The burglary took place between 3.30pm and 4.30pm on Jan 12 during which a heavy steel safe box was stolen.

The thieves are believed to be Malaysian Chinese, according to the victim’s neighbour.

“They are so professional that three of the victim’s neighbours saw the suspects entering the house but they did not suspect them to be thieves.

“The witness reveals that the house break-in syndicate consists of a surveillance team and an executive team roaming from one housing estate to another without being detected by the police force,” Pang said.

Pang added that the victim lost some cash, four Malaysian International passports and two original Land Titles No CL105429892 and CL105429481 are amongst items stolen.

He also advised the public not to accept any transactions related to above documents which are now under police investigation.

“Any person who happens to find the documents should send them to Tawau MCA Office and the owner has pledged reasonable cash reward upon return of the documents,” Pang said.

He also urged the public to keep their cash in the bank and record the serial numbers of their money that kept at home as evidence when the thief was caught.
