The seventh seed took the first set 1-6 and went on to claim the crown without hitting a ball when his opponent threw in the towel in the second set.

Dissanayake could not continue as the pain in his left hamstring was becoming unbearable. He apparently picked up an injury after being taken the full distance 4-1, 2-4, 5-4 (3) in the semi-final by sixth seed Anandone Khamphoumy of Laos.

The final was played according to the fit-in format in which play had to continue until all the positions — first to the last — were determined .

Malaysia’s second seed Colin Wong had to be contented with third placing after going down to Khamphoumy 5 – 4(6), 4 – 1 in the third-fourth play-off.

Wong crashed out to Adas 3-5(4), 2-4 in the semi-finals.

In the girls’ singles final, Malaysian Choo Lyn Yuen justified her top seeding when she steamrolled second seeded Singaporean Joy Chia 6-0,6–1 to clinch        the title in less than one hour.

In the third-fourth play-off, it was an all-Malaysian affair with fourth seed Arcnaah Rajan defeating unseeded Alyssa Boey4-2,  5-3.
