KOTA KINABALU: It is not impossible to have a woman as the Sabah State Secretary one day.Chief Minister Datuk Seri Musa Aman in stating this yesterday, said he had confidence in women’s leadership skills and would provide them the opportunity if it comes along.

“To me, nothing is impossible nowadays. There is a chance for them to be there (as State Secretary). I am sure they are as good as any men,” he said in replying to a question whether women, especially retired civil servants, may continue their services at higher level, or even ambassadors abroad.

Speaking to reporters after officiating the Girl Guides Association Malaysia, Sabah Chapter’s Pride Hall at its headquarters along Tuaran Road here, Musa however said that as far as woman ambassadors were concerned, it was not within his jurisdiction.

“I believe we have always helped women. After finishing their term (in civil services), we appoint them as board members or deputy state secretary, permanent secretaries, directors, state treasurer … and I find them very hardworking and committed. I am happy with their performances.

“We will always make sure there is a place for women in the society. So this will continue from time to time. I do recognise their contribution and have never hesitated to offer them places as long as they are willing to work and help … I always have confidence in women’s leadership,” he said.

Musa added people such as Sabah Energy Corporation general manager Datuk Margaret Fung is a great example of successful women in the state.
