Sabah school co-ops record RM4.9 million turnover

KOTA KINABALU: School cooperatives in Sabah registered a total turnover of RM4.9 million for the period between January and October last year, Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Yahya Hussin revealed yesterday.“If compared with the performance of school cooperatives in other states, ours still lag behind,” he said when closing an entrepreneurship seminar for school cooperatives in the state at the Tabung Haji complex near here.

As at October last year, there were 164 registered school cooperatives in Sabah with 116,694 members and shares worth RM1.013 million, he said.About 200 people took part in the two-day seminar organised jointly by the Cooperative Commission and State Education Department.

At the function, Yahya also presented aid in the form of cheques from the Cooperative Commission to Koperasi Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) Kuala Penyu Bhd (RM7,000), Koperasi SMK Mutiara Brd (RM24,000.00) and Koperasi SMK Bukit Garam Kinabatangan Bhd (RM30,000). — Bernama
