The man in his 60s was detained for questioning by police, who also seized a shotgun and a number of cartridges, following a report lodged by the 21-year-old victim.

According to the victim’s family members, the incident happened around 5pm when the victim, who is a labourer, went to a secondary jungle near Taman Desa Wira to look for fish in a small stream.

While there, they said an elderly man from a nearby factory called out to the youth and asked him what he was doing in the area.

When told that he was looking for fish in the stream, the old man was alleged to have threatened to shoot him if he did not leave the premises.

The frightened youth immediately started walking away, but soon heard several loud shots being fired before feeling a slight pain in the right side of his body.

He then ran back home and related what happened to his grandfather, who inspected the wound and removed two small pellets.

When contacted by The Borneo Post yesterday, state CID head SAC II Huzir Mohamed confirmed receiving a police report of the incident and of the arrest of the elderly man.

However, he said he could not comment on the case as police were still trying to get a clearer picture of what actually transpired and were in the process of recording statements from the elderly man and the youth.
