KUCHING: An award winning director Alwyn Tay and a celebrity blogger Kenny Sia have combined forces to produce the new TV commercials (TVC) for Sarawak’s well known Dahfa Fish Snack.

These 15-second commercials, in Bahasa Malaysia, English and Mandarin, will go on air starting Jan 25 in all TV stations including pay-TV provider Astro.

One version has Sia running the marathon and munching on Dahfa, while the other one features a multi-racial dance routine in line with the 1Malaysia theme.

Tay, who is creative director of Kuching-based Equator Media, said the filming for the commercials was done last month in Kuala Lumpur.

“We completed the filming and post production just in time to get the commercials on air before the Chinese New Year festival,” he said at the launching of the commercial at a hotel here yesterday.

According to him, Dahfa Foods Manufacturing Sdn Bhd approached him last year to do this project as the company wanted a new concept for its TV commercials. This is because previously, Dahfa’s commercials were animation-based.

“My affiliation with Dahfa started five years ago when they sponsored my short film A Taste of Love which eventually won the 2005 Asiana International Short Film Festival.

“The best thing about this project was that Dahfa wanted Sarawakians to be in charge of it. This shows that Dahfa fully supports local talents,” he said.

On Sia, Tay said he (Sia) is the best role model to promote the product.

“He’s a top blogger who is popular in Malaysia and Singapore. And he comes from a good background,” he said.

Sia, on the other hand, said he was glad to be involved with this

project and to be associated with a homegrown

product.

“I did not expect the idea of an overweight man running the marathon will get accepted. But it did, and I hope this concept will make people remember about this product.

“As for myself, I joined marathons in and outside the state in the last three years. It’s now a hobby for me,” said the blogger, who is also a director of Level Up Fitness.

Meanwhile, Dahfa has been in the market for the last 30 years, and the Fish Snack is also popular in Singapore and East Asian countries.

The Fish Snack has also won the Keris Award in the 4th Asia Pacific International Honesty Enterprise, and the 2000 New Millenium Award at the International Award for Food and Beverage in Paris, France.

It also announced special packs for the CNY festive season, and these are sold in many supermarkets in the state.
