KENINGAU: Community leaders here have to be careful when releasing statements related to the Native Court, District Chief OKK Mohd Amir Datuk Ariff reminded yesterday.

He said every statement connected with the Native Court had to be referred to its head first to avoid confusion and enquiry.

“Native chiefs, native chief representatives and village headmen have to be careful when releasing statements concerning the Native Court to avoid causing confusion to the public,” he said when commenting on a report  last week which stated he (Amir) had retired and a new district chief had taken over his place.

Amir reiterated he is still the Keningau District Chief and has not retired.

“When the news reported I have retired, it spread very fast. Many people telephoned me and asked whether the report was true. I told them that I am still the Keningau District Chief,” he said.

Amir also advised the community leaders to be committed to their duty and responsibility and not to abuse their power.
