Malaysia Airports in Indian venture

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysian Airports Consultancy Services Sdn Bhd (MACS) has signed a Memorandum of Under­standing (MOU) with GMR Hyderabad Inter­national Airport Limited (GHIAL), to provide technical services for commercial projects to be developed by the latter.MACS is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Malaysia Airports Hol­dings Bhd (MAHB).

The signing ceremony held on Jan 22 in Chennai, India.

MACS was represented by its Managing Director, Tan Sri Bashir Ahmad. Airports business chair­man of the GMR Group, Kiran Kumar Grandhi, signed for GHIAL.

The signing was wit­nessed by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak who was on an official visit to India.

In a statement yester­day, Bashir said the agreement would enable MAHB, through MACS, to further explore and venture into commercial opportunities with GHIAL.

This he added, is particularly for the Rajiv Gandhi International airport in Hyderabad.

“One of the important benefits of this project, is the ability to further expand our consultancy expertise, in the area of commercial activities.

“Commercial activities at the airport comprise operation of retail outlets, food and beverage outlets, advertising, parking facilities and hotel management,” Bashir said in a statement here yesterday.

The Group chairman of GMR Group, G M  Rao said the company had forged a strong relation­ship with MAHB and was confident that this bond would be further streng­thened in the future.

Both GHIAL and Malaysia Airport have established a good relationship since 2002, when both partnered for the development and operation of the Hyderabad International Airport. — Bernama
