SANDAKAN: ‘Ops Pasir’, an integrated security operation in the east coast of Sabah is still relevant and has become an important element in ensuring security in the area, Chief of Defence Forces Gen Tan Sri Azizan Ariffin said.He said the armed forces and other security agencies had been carrying out the operation smoothly.

“It will go on until we receive orders from the government to stop it.

“We should ensure security in the area to give confidence to the people, investors and tourists,” he told reporters after visiting Ops Pasir’s northern tactical headquarters at Pulau Berhala Camp off here yesterday.

The Ops Pasir was launched 10 years ago.

Azizan, who visited the northern and southern sectors of the operation during his two-day visit from yesterday, said he was satisfied with how the operation was carried out.

He also praised the personnel involved, saying they were committed to ensuring that the state’s east coast was safe.

“The operation is sufficient in ensuring that this area is always peaceful,” he said.

On the warden notice issued by the United States Embassy on Jan 15, warning of possible attacks by criminals on foreigners in the east coast of Sabah, Azizan said it was a normal notice.

Similar notice had been issued previously, he added.

“The security forces will ensure that the security in the area is at its level best at all times. This includes ensuring the safety of tourists in the area,” he said. — Bernama
