KUALA TERENGGANU: The Juvenile Court here yesterday fixed March 7 for mention in the case of an Indonesian maid charged with stealing from her employer after it was revealed that there was a discrepancy in her name in the charge sheet.

Magistrate Wan Nor Aklima Wan Salleh fixed the date after Raftfizi Zainal Abidin, counsel appointed by the Indonesian embassy, submitted a copy of a birth certificate which showed that the name in the charge sheet was incorrect.

She then instructed the prosecution to prepare a fresh charge sheet with the correct name.

Yesterday the court was supposed to pass sentence on the 14-year-old from Palembang after she pleaded guilty two weeks ago to stealing two laptops, a broadband modem, a mouse and a bag from her employer, Mazli Mohamad.

She admitted committing the offence in Taman Indah, Seberang Takir, here, between 10am and 10.30am on Jan 6.

She was ordered to be sent to the Tunas Bakti Girls School in Marang, pending the disposal of the case.

Deputy public prosecutor Farah Yasmin Salleh appeared for the prosecution.

Raftfizi, when met outside the court, said investigation by the embassy found that the name and age in the girl’s passport were different from those in her birth certificate.

“We have contacted her parents in Palembang, Indonesia, who confirmed the matter. So, with this factual discrepancy, the earlier charge and plea cannot be accepted,” he said. — Bernama
