KUCHING: Nanyang Wushu Federation of Sarawak is targeting three gold medals at the 8th Hong Kong Wushu International Championship from March 11-15.
Its chairman Prof Dr Song Swee Hee said the association was sending an eight-member contingent, including him as the leader, to the championship at Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre, Ma On Shan Sports Centre and Sha Tin Town Hall.
“Our participation will certainly lift the standard and development of wushu in the state as a form of cultural sports and put Sarawak on the world map of wushu,” he said after receiving the national colours from Batang Sadong MP Nancy Shukri on Thursday.
Other members of the contingent are instructors Yeo Liew Yian and Lai Lee Sze, exponents Judy Song, Chong Yek Chew, Alan Song, Alvin Yeo and Jacqueline Song.
Nancy said she sup- ported all sports that promoted a healthy lifestyle, instilled high discipline in the young and kept them away from unhealthy activities.
“The participation by the association at the Hong Kong championship is very encouraging and it has helped to put Sarawak on the wushu map,” she said, hoping that the exponents would do their best to bring glory to the state and country.
Meanwhile, Nanyang Wushu is open for adult classes at 3rd Floor, Kion Hoe Building, along Jalan Padungan here. The classes will be conducted on Mondays and Wednesdays from 7.15pm to 8.30pm.
Training classes for youth and children on weekends are also open at 11 centres in and around the city.
