Their trip was sponsored solely by their supportive father, Charles Chang.

Top seed Oscar won the Under-18 boys singles, defeating Kuala Lumpur’s Marcus Chee 4-6, 6-1, 10-1 in the final last week.

The 18-year-old gave Dylan Teo of Penang a 6-0, 6-1 hiding in the semi-finals.

His sister, Jane, 15, also did well. She was the losing finalist in the U-16 singles but won the doubles for the same age.

In the singles, Jane lost to Sharifah Shafinaz of Perlis 7-9 in the final played on a pro-set basis but got her revenge in the doubles.

She and her partner Adele Boey (Selangor) beat Shafinaz and Roselyn Law (Penang) 8-6 in the final, also on a pro-set basis.

The senior Chang, when met together with the family here yesterday, said he was proud of his children’s achievements.

“I’m very happy with their results and hopefully, I can continue to send them for more competitions to help them achieve their full potential,” he said.

Meanwhile, Oscar said he would continue training hard  to achieve his dream of playing for the national team.

“My aim is to represent Malaysia, possibly in the Davis Cup, and turn professional one day,” said the former student of SMK Kuching High, who has represented Malaysia in the Junior Davis Cup.

He also helped Sarawak to the Malaysian Schools Sports Council (MSSM) boys U-18 inter-team title here last year. He was also in the Sarawak contingent that won three gold and five silver medals in Sukma 2008 in Terengganu, and looks set to play in Sukma Melaka in June.

As for Jane, she was champion in the Port Dickson Open U-14 girls singles and doubles last year.

She was also the losing finalist in the girls U-16 doubles and the losing semi-finalist in the girls U-14 singles in the Genting Selangor Open.

The youngest sibling Augustine also did well last year.  He was the runner-up in the boys U-14 singles and doubles in the 45th Port Dickson Open.
