Cook jailed for helping to conceal stolen motorbikes

KOTA KINABALU: An Indonesian cook, who pleaded guilty to two counts of assisting in concealing two stolen motorbikes was yesterday jailed a total of 12 months by a magistrates’ court here.Magistrate Noor Hafizah Mohd Salim sentenced Yusuf Mustawa, 29, to six months’ imprisonment for the first charge of assisting in concealing Mohd Rahmat Saidi’s motorbike bearing the number SAA 748 W and worth RM2,000.

He admitted committing the offence between July 1 and 11, 2009 at the compound of SK Luyang.

For the second charge of assisting in concealing Sofyan Md Kusin’s motorbike worth RM2,700 in May last year at Kampung Indai, Tuaran, he was jailed another six months.

Each of the charges framed under Section 414 of the Penal Code carries a jail term of between six months and seven years and a fine upon conviction.

Noor Hafizah ordered the custodial sentences to run consecutively and ordered the accused to be referred to the Immigration Department after his release from prison.

Meanwhile in an unrelated case, Sim Kok Huat, 45, was fined RM5,000 in default 90 days’ imprisonment after the latter pleaded guilty to possessing 50 DVDs without the “B” certificate for the purpose of selling.

Prosecuting officer Inspector Syahrin Ali told the court that Sim admitted committing the offence about 9.30am on Jan 30 at Bundusan Foodcourt area.

He was charged under Section 18(4)(a) of the Film Censorship Act 2002 which provides a fine of between RM5,000 and  RM30,000 or a jail term of up to three years, or both, upon conviction.
