Elderly man creates stir at complex

KUALA LUMPUR: The situation in the lobby of the Federal Courts Complex in Jalan Duta here became chaotic when an elderly man screamed at and used coarse language on press photographers and TV cameramen.In the 9.30am incident it is understood that the man in his 70’s was upset as he was not allowed to follow the proceedings in the sodomy trial of Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim by court officers as entry passes had run out.

The situation then became more chaotic when he fainted and had to be taken to the Kuala Lumpur Hospital in an ambulance.

The situation calmed down for a while and became chaotic again when police chased out photographers and cameramen  from  the  lobby to reduce crowding there and adding to the chaos were shouts of ‘reformasi’ by Anwar’s supporters in the court compound who had come as early as 6am.

About 10am Anwar, who is facing a sodomy charge, came out of court and told his supporters that the proceedings had been put off till 2.30pm.

Also present in the court complex was Kelantan Menteri Besar Datuk Nik Abdul Aziz Nik Mat, Selangor Menteri Besar Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim and DAP advisor Lim Kit Siang.

Meanwhile, Sentul police district chief ACP Zakaria Pagan said the situation at court complex was under control.

“During any high profile case the police will have tight security and we have deployed sufficient personnel,” he told Bernama in the lobby.

Zakaria said police would not hesitate to take stern action against anyone who disrupted court proceedings. — Bernama
