KUCHING: Sarawak are eyeing three gold and three silver medals for table tennis in Sukma XIII.“We are hoping to achieve our target with a good showing in Melaka,” Table Tennis Association of Sarawak (TTAS) president Richard Wee said.

According to him, the state team comprised 10 players — four boys from Kuching and one from Miri, two girls from Kuching and one each from Sarikei, Miri and Sibu.

Wee was speaking to reporters after receiving Assistant Minister of Sports Datuk Lee Kim Shin at the training centre on Monday.

The players are Wendy Lau, Kueh Wan May, Chai Kiang Peng, Matteus Aloysius, Lee Soo Han, Sheryn Yong, Wong Yu Wen, Ngu Ing Hung, Chai Kian Beng and Kho Mao Sheng.

They were picked from the recent Sarawak Closed Championship and the National Age Group competition.

Meanwhile, Lee assured the players of his full support in their quest for gold, saying TTAS could always refer administrative and financial matters to his ministry.

“I will do my best and I am considering sending the players for further training in China,” he said.

Lee hoped that the team could win more gold medals because table tennis is one Sarawak’s strong sports in Sukma.
