PUTRAJAYA: Lawyers representing Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim yesterday met Court of Appeal president Tan Sri Alauddin Mohd Sheriff to request for early hearing dates for Anwar’s appeal to stay his ongoing trial, and against the High Court’s decision to quash his application to strike out the sodomy charge.Justice Alauddin had orally notified the parties that Anwar’s appeal against the High Court’s decision in striking out his application to quash the sodomy charge would be heard on Feb 12.

Anwar’s motion for a stay order of his sodomy trial would also be heard on the same day.

Met by reporters, lawyer Datuk Param Cumaraswamy said Alauddin had also informed them that the hearing date for Anwar’s application to review the Federal Court’s ruling denying him access to key documents related to his sodomy trial would be fixed at the earliest by next week.

Alauddin had said that they were looking for one more judge to fill the three-men bench Federal Court quorum to hear the review application.

However, neither dates are official as the formal notice for the Feb 12 hearing has yet to be issued while the date for the judicial review application would only be notified to the parties by today.

Also present in the meeting were lawyer Wan Anuar Shaddat who is also representing Anwar, and deputy public prosecutor Wong Chiang Kiat.
