In total, QSR Brands Bhd (QSR), the franchisee for Pizza Hut, will be spending approximately RM20 million to get their 21 new outlets up and running for 2010.

According to QSR’s managing director, Jamaludin Md Ali, who launched Pizza Hut’s latest in conjunction with the upcoming Chinese New Year festivities, Pizza Hut will be spending more than RM2.5 million on advertising and promotions for their new pizza, which will include television and radio commercials, press advertisements, in-store promotions as well as point of sale materials.

QSR’s director, Wong Sooi Kheong, told The Borneo Post in an exclusive that, “Out of the RM2.5 million allocated for our advertising and promotions nationwide, roughly 10 per cent will be wired for the marketing in East Malaysia.”

He added that East Malaysia has great potential for increased development, spurred by the state governments growth.

“We have 14 Pizza Hut outlets in Sabah and 12 more in Sarawak. We have quite a big demand in East Malaysia, gaining popularity over time. As such we will be looking to opening a minimal of one extra outlet in Sabah and one in Sarawak for this year,” stated Wong.

He related that they are not limiting their expansion in East Malaysia to only that much. Based on past records, if the location proved to be strategic and if all other outlet planning goes well, the possibilities of having more will definitely rise to meet the demand.

“The demand for Pizza Hut items in East Malaysia has always been very robust, even almost on par as it is here,” expressed Jamaludin and added that he sees East Malaysians to be quite comfortable with Pizza Hut on the whole.

Pizza Hut’s new Golden Fortune Cheesy Crown Pizza, with its generous amount of cheese oozing from the crowns, is expected to drive Pizza Hut’s nation wide sales up by approximately 20 per cent during the promotion period.

It will be available from Feb 4 to March 12, 2010.

QSR recorded revenue of RM2005.5 million for the third quarter ended Sept 30 2009, which translated into an increase in revenue of up to 411.9 per cent, as compared to the corresponding period the year before that.

As for its profit before tax, it registered RM160 million, up by 121.6 per cent from the same period in 2008.

The revenue and profit before tax for the year 2009, included that of KFC Holdings (Malaysia) Bhd, which became its subsidiary with effect from January 2009.

QSR will be announcing their fourth quarter results as well as their full year results, mid of this month.
