“It has been long awaited and long overdue. Together with that, we also have in order 25 Airbus 330s and six A30s. These are slated for international flights.

“On domestic flights, there will be a number of new 737-800 aircrafts to be deployed. These aircrafts will be for short and medium haul,” he told The Borneo Post yesterday, during the MAS Team’s courtesy visit to the newspaper’s Kuching office in conjunction with the Chinese New Year’s celebration.

Also present was MASwings Sarawak’s regional manager and head of security, Zainuddin Mohamed, as well as its corporate communications head, Melissa Crocker.

Meanwhile, Zainuddin announced the recent delivery of its eighth ATR 72-500 aircraft as part of its plan to phase out its Fokker 50 by this April.

“The replacement should enable MASwings to cater higher seat capacity compared to its previous operations using the Fokkers,” he added.

“The new ATRs also have a Business Class, which is one of the new features we’re trying to introduce onboard.

“The seats are slightly different from the Economy Class and we make sure that the seats next to the passengers are left empty.”
