Rape accused to be tried in July

KOTA KINABALU: A local labourer will be tried in the Sessions Court here on July 21 and 22 for allegedly raping a woman last year.Paldun Lukman, 30, pleaded not guilty before High Court deputy registrar Zulkifli Abllah, who sat as a Sessions Court judge, to a charge under Section 376 (1) of the Penal Code The offence is punishable with a maximum 20 years’ jail and whipping upon conviction.

The accused allegedly raped the 33-year-old woman at a workers’ house in Penampang between 11.40am and noon on Oct 25, 2009.

ASP Sabrina Jinius is expected to call 12 witnesses to testify against Paldun.

Zulkifli released Paldun, who was unrepresented by a lawyer, on RM5,000 bail with RM1,500 deposited and two local sureties pending his trial.
