KOTA KINABALU: Singaporean tourists should be offered special interest tours during their visit to the Land Below the Wind, said Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Peter Pang En Yin.Pang, who is also the Youth and Sports Minister, said Singaporean tourists would be more interested in tours geared towards fishing, diving and even photography in Sabah, which was different from the environment in Singapore.

The minister said this during a courtesy call by Singapore Deputy High Commissioner Kevin Cheok at his office here yesterday.

Pang was also offered an opportunity to visit the Minister of Youth in Singapore in order to look at the infrastructure for sports and youths in the country.

“Over the weekend a Singapore team came to join us for the national hockey game for under 16 in Sandakan.

“They stayed for nine days and even organised a trip to see the places in Sandakan,” he said, adding that his ministry would look out for opportunities to organise activities with neighbouring countries.

Cheok said the purpose of the visit was to gain an understanding of the development and situation in the State. It was his first individual visit to Sabah since he assumed his post in December 2008.

Cheok said there would be a large number of Singaporean tourist arrivals to Sabah due to the availability of flights.

Among the topics discussed during the courtesy call were tourism, economy and politics.
