“No such interference be it in Sarawak or anywhere else in the country. We are bound by Section 4 of the Police Act which states that the force is under the command and control of the Inspector-General of Police and his officers,” he said.Hamza was responding to a query by a local reporter with regards to a recent ‘disclosure’ supposedly by Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Musa Hassan about the interference of a ‘third party’ in the Royal Malaysian Police.

“Any allegations claiming such an interference are unfounded and baseless,” he added during a press conference held at contingent police headquarters yesterday.

On another matter, Hamza said the  on-going ‘Ops Cantas Kenyalang’ conducted statewide has seen a total of 138 persons arrested under the Special Preventive Measures (LLPK) to date since its inception in 2007.

He said between 60 and 70 of those detained have been released following the expiry of their two-year detention period, but assured the public that the police were keeping close tabs on the released individuals’ activities and movements.

“In fact, we re-arrested several of them under the Emergency Ordinance after they were found to have returned to their old ways,” said Hamza.

The bulk of the arrests, including several made this year, came from Sibu while others were from Miri, Bintulu and Kuching.
