The prime minister said the number was from 387,210 jobseekers and 159,968 vacancies registered with the JMC during the period.

“The JMC is a clear proof that the government is giving priority to the interest and well-being of the people, not just in slogan or rhetoric but proven with genuine actions within a short period.

“I’m confident that government agencies, private companies and the people will fully utilise the facilities offered by the JMC and the JobsMalaysia portal as one of the main hubs for finding employments in the country,” he said at the simultaneous opening of 11 JMCs nationwide here yesterday.

Present was Human Resources Minister Datuk Dr S Subramaniam.

The Human Resources Ministry set up the 11 JMCs nationwide namely in Cyberjaya, Port Klang, Kelana Jaya, Danga Bay Johor Baharu, Segamat, Sungai Petani, Kota Baharu, Ipoh, George Town, Kuching and Kota Kinabalu.

The JMC, which was set up using the allocation from the economic stimulus package, was aimed at complementing the JobsMalaysia portal.

It aims, among others, to provide online job-matching services, handle interview process and create links with employers to provide more job opportunities to the people.

The prime minister said to minimise the impact of the economic downturn, the government, through the first and second economic stimulus packages, had managed to minimise retrenchment to 46,860 compared to the expected 200,000.

The success was achieved, he said, among others, through programmes of the Human Resources Ministry namely the setting up of operations rooms at the ministry and another 80 at manpower offices nationwide to monitor the state of employment in the country.

Through the job placement programme, a total of 22,443 local workers were re-employed in various sectors nationwide, he said.

“The government also implemented the train-and-place programme to enhance the workers’ skills and employability. A total of 39,035 participants have registered to undergo courses in 82 skills sectors in 17 industries.

“Of the total, until today (yesterday), 20,610 workers re-entered the job market and this figure will continue to rise upon the conclusion of the programme,” he said.

In line with the 1Malaysia vision to enhance services to the people, the prime minister said the Human Resources Ministry had also introduced four additional programmes.

Among the programmes was the setting up of 99 JobsMalaysia Points throughout the country to provide services similar to those of the JMCs.

Through the hardcore poor development programme, he said, the government provided employment to the people as part of the effort to eradicate urban poverty. — Bernama
