SIBU: Six records tumbled, including one state mark, as the 44th edition of the Sibu Division Inter-Secondary and Primary Schools Championship entered its penultimate day at Stadium Tun Zaidi here yesterday.

Capturing the moment was Nur Hidayah Mohammad of SMK Kampung Nangka as she swept two records, including the 12-year-old state schools Girls A 100m hurdles with a new time of 15.25.

Chong Fun Fei clocked the previous time in 1998.

In Girls A triple jump, the 19-year-old Form Six student also displayed her prowess when she leapt to a distance of 10.42m, eclipsing the old mark established by Liyana Fairuz in 2004.

SMK Kanowit, one of the favourites, produced three record-breakers thus far in Martius Mapang, Monica Sayun and Jessheera Mandah Meni.

Both Monica and Martius are walk specialists, winning their 3000m with a time of  19’20.19” in Girls B and 16’42.90” in Boys C respectively.

Jessheera took the record in the Girls B triple jump with a new distance of 10.34m. The old record was 10.25m set by Nurhidayah in 2006.

Philomena Lulong Naga of SMK Luar Bandar scored the remaining record with a new time of 13.62” in the Girls D 100m.

Meanwhile, SMK Kanowit maintained pole position in both boys and girls categories as at press time.

In the Boys, the school garnered 228 points to lead the pack, followed by SMK Sacred Heart with 177, SMK Sedaya with 134, SMK Sibu Jaya with 109 and SMK Chung with 98.

In the Girls, SMK Kanowit also ruled supreme, securing 220 points, followed by SMK Sedaya with 191, SMK Chung Hua with 114 and SMK St Elizabeth with 108.

The championship will come to an end today.
