KUALA LUMPUR: The Department of Polytechnic Education has received some 125,000 online applications to gain admission into its 27 polytechnics nationwide for the July 2010 intake.The overwhelming response from applicants with Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia qualifications was attributed to the established polytechnic education’s strong industrial training collaboration.
“It was also due to the long-standing practice of compulsory industrial training for students, which is always in great demand from the industry,” it said in a statement here yesterday.
The department’s director-general, Datuk Imran Idris recently said that polytechnic education could greatly complement the government’s effort to elevate the country’s status from middle income to higher income which was in line with the New Economic Model announced by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak recently. — Bernama
