KUCHING: Kelly Tan is confident of victory in the 41st Sarawak Amateur Open Golf Championship and the 22nd Sarawak Amateur Ladies Golf Championship 2010.Tan, 17, from Johor has been playing golf for five years following the footsteps of her father.

“It’s a tough game but it is very interesting. I really like it,” said Tan when she was interviewed at the welcoming dinner on Thursday.

Tan aimed to be a professional golfer one day.

“It is a kind of business. Since I am interested in it and it is rewarding, why don’t I go for it?” she said.

Tan, who is still in Form 5, said that her family gives her full support to go on to a lucrative golfing career.

“I give myself three  years to see how far it goes. If there is not much progress, I will go back to school,” she said.

Tan has won a lot of prizes in golfing like in the MSSM Under-18 and KL Amateur last month.

She also won the Selangor Amateur in January.

In 2009, Tan won Faldo Series Grand Final Malaysia and finished third in Faldo Series Grand Final for Asia in China.

In December last year, Tan got her bronze medals for individual and team events participating in the SEA Games in Laos.

The great achievements and strong interest in the game had boosted her confidence in the three-day game at Sarawak Golf Club here.
