KUALA LUMPUR: The Kuala Lumpur Malay Chamber of Commerce (KLMCC) yesterday expressed its support for the New Economic Model (NEM) announced by Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak.KLMCC president Datuk Syed Amin Aljeffri said KLMCC was waiting for the implementation details and will study it.

“We will support mechanisms that are feasible and applicable, especially the privatisation of government-linked companies (GLCS),” he said.

The NEM, aimed at transforming the country into a high-income nation that is sustainable and inclusive with all Malaysians contributing and benefiting from the economic growth, was unveiled by Najib on Tuesday.

The corporatisation and renaming of Malaysian Industrial Development Authority to Malaysia Investment Development Authority (MIDA) will help to boost the economy by attracting more foreign investments into the country, Syed Amin said.

He said this during a press conference on the First Annual Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) Software Technology Conference and Exhibition (SESTECH 2010), here yesterday.

“MIDA has done quite well in the past few years and has earned accolades from different parties. So, it is credible and the most suitable agency to carry out the mission.” — Bernama
