The burglars aged between 20 and 30 died at the scene, said Pahang CID chief ACP T. Narenasagaran.

He said earlier, several policemen were dispatched to Bukit Keramat after the police received a report that a house there was broken into at 3.45am.

“The police spotted a grey Proton Wira in the area and tailed the car until Jalan Taman Jelutung before ordering it to stop.

“However, it sped off and skidded and landed at a hillside. Three men armed with machetes got off the car and tried to attack the policemen. The police fired at them in self-defence,” Narenasagaran told reporters here yesterday.

The police found four machetes, a necklace, four rings, RM374, Rupiah 130,000, a mobile phone, a metal cutter and knuckle duster. Narenasagaran said no documents were found on the burglars while the car was reported stolen in Kajang last year.

The police believed the burglars were responsible for at least eight robberies and burglaries in Maran, Bera and Kuala Lipis. — Bernama
